Minecraft server down – 10/5/2011

Not sure what’s going on. Other admin have reported that the server has been down all day. According to my host’s control panel, the server is still online. I managed to get in for a couple minutes using my Mac, which was odd. I kept falling though the world and it looked like half the world was split in half due to some wacky-ass chunk error. To be on the safe side I restored the most recent backup, but that didn’t help. Still can’t log in. I assume it’s my server host’s fault. I contacted them but have yet to hear back. I’ll update you once it comes back online. Check the Twitter and Facebook for up to the minute news.

And the ungrateful over-entitled douchebag award goes to…Minecrafters

Picard facepalm

Today a Minecraft developer tweeted that he has been receiving phone calls on his personal/home phone (in the middle of the night!) from fans asking when patch 1.8 will be released. In the Reddit thread for the tweet, his phone number was posted several times by commenters with a “it was really easy to find” attitude who seem to believe they aren’t in the wrong for posting that information or contacting him.

Don’t do that.

Really, that kind of behavior is not okay and your actions give this community a bad name. The pre-release of 1.8 is already available and I’ve posted how to easily acquire it. If you can’t wait for the “100% official” release, then play the fucking pre-release. There’s no need to start stalking and harassing developers of the game. You bought a game that costs less than a new shirt at Hot Topic. You didn’t buy the developers souls. You’re “gamer entitlement” argument ends here, you ungrateful shits.

Want to play Minecraft patch 1.8 early? Here’s how!

Happy man

Patch 1.8 “The Adventure Update” has been leaked on 4chan. I know what you’re thinking; but don’t worry, it’s a clean file. It’s hosted on the official Minecraft.net servers, most likely put there by Jeb, and Notch has tweeted that he’s okay with people using the leak. It will only work if you paid for the game, so if you bitch that it doesn’t, you’re a horrible person who pirates $20 games and deserve a good spanking.

Here’s how to get and download the patch.

Blizzcon 2011 merch on sale September 16 for ticket holders and the 23 for digital tickets purchasers

Photo on 9 9 11 at 9 31 AM

Fellow WoW players looking to preorder on some Blizzcon merch before the convention are in luck. Much like last year, online pre-sales will hit the online store early.

Raiders lucky enough to get their hands on physical tickets may preorder goodies on September 16 while digital ticket purchases, such as myself, have to wait until the 23rd to preorder all the fun stuff.

Last year I spent well over $400 on merch. Pins, shirts, posters, a Horde banner, and even a ceramic Figure Print of Grunty, the Murloc Marine.  You name it, I bought it. Hopefully this year will be much more forgiving on my wallet since the majority of news will likely be Diablo and StarCraft related. I do enjoy both those franchises, but nowhere near the level of my WoW-fandom.

Dead Island is sexist? lol no.

1.8 now “most likely” released on September 12

Yesterday Jeb updated his “most likely” release date prediction for 1.8. This time it’s September 12. If course, this estimated release date should be taken with a grain or two of salt, possibly even pepper, since his past guesses have been a little off.

Also, it has been confirmed that the experience orbs introduced in 1.8 will not have any use until patch 1.9. Oh, and villages will be empty of NPC. That’s fucking creepy.

The Adventure Update will NOT be released September 8

As much as it pains me to say it, it looks like patch 1.8 won’t be out on the hinted release date of September 8. According to Jeb on Twitter, the patch needs more than an extra day of testing.

Looks grim to get a release out on 8th. We need more testing, one day is not enough. And we never release on fridays… I’ll keep you posted

Hey, before you all get upset, remember that a beta build with less bugs is a more enjoyable beta build than one with lots of them. I’m all for whatever causes less bitching and whining on the forums post-release.

Minecraft pigs now have snouts

Yes, this is news. Important, life changing news.

A Redditor recently suggested that Notch and the gang update some of the old passive mobs, since they are starting to look outdated with the inclusion of every new mob and feature. Like a god from the heavens, Notch posted a photo of the new pig model, with a snout! Snouts, readers! Snouts!

Boy, I’m an excitable one today. I should lay off the Hi-C.

Minecraft Patch 1.8 hitting soon, here’s the patch features

HappyCat RE Osama Bin Laden is dead s500x375 171173

According to a post on the forums, The Adventure Update will be releasing in the next few weeks, and with it comes a massive shit-ton of new features. Some you might not have even heard about until now!

Cobwebs and mineshafts and dungeons… oh my!

Randomly generated abandoned mineshafts will be generated in the world. In these mineshafts you will find new cobweb blocks as well as a new type of dungeon with its own rewards.

Towns

There’s now randomly generated villages that house non-playable characters. In these towns you should be able to socialize with NPC’s to buy goods and the like. Also, the town architecture is surprisingly beautiful for something that’s randomly generated.

Don’t fuck with the Endermen

You know that episode of Doctor Who with the angels that kill you if you blink or look away from them? Well, Endermen are just like that, only they attack you when you look at them. They are peaceful until you move your cross-hairs over one. If you do this, they will teleport to you and attack you. They can also pick up and place blocks at random. It’s unsure if they are allowed to remove player placed blocks or not. As of patch 1.8, Endermen will be a rare spawn.

New lighting and brightness slider

The way light is generated has been completely revamped. No longer will the day/night cycle look like it’s loading block by block. The new transition from night to day (or vice versa) is much smoother.

All items that emit light now have distinct lighting colors. Now my red-light district will get much redder! Also, there’s now a brightness slider allowing you to adjust the brightness of the game to your personal preference.

Experience Orbs and Hunger Bars

The way food effects your player has changed. No longer will it just heal you, but now it effects your rate of healing. Eat food and it will fill your hunger bar. The more filled it is, the faster you will regenerate health. If the bar gets too low, you will actually start to loose health. With this feature comes a new “eating” animation. Om nom nom.

You now gain experience by killing monsters and upon their death you can collect Experience Orbs. With the Orbs, you can purchase items that have been promised as worthwhile.

Rivers

No more ditch digging for me! Rivers are finally in the game. Rivers are large and ca span the length of land and connect to an ocean, or form a “circular” river that is connected to itself. They won’t flow, meaning they will be just as still as the oceans, but the team are considering making those fuckers gush in the future.

War never changes…oh, wait. It has.

Bows can now be charged longer, for higher damage, and it will be possible to score critical hits. Crits are possible from jump attacks with your sword or from random charged bow shots.

New impact animations have been added to the monsters in the game, including arrows penetrating attacked monsters.

Run, Minecraft Steve, Run! We can now sprint! Besides running for extended periods, monsters who are hit while you’re sprinting will go flying back. That’s useful for fending off those bastard spiders that crawl at ungodly speeds.

New and expanded biomes

Biomes are now much larger than they were before. Yes, that should likely end the infamous “one block biomes” we’ve all grown to accept in the world. They will also feature clearly marked boarders, allowing the transition between biomes to be much more noticeable.

Time to get creative!

1.8 adds Creative Mode. In this mode you can fly, break blocks with one hit, control the time of day/night, and spawn infinite items, all while being invincible.

So, that’s all, folks! Looks like Christmas is coming early this year. Look for Patch 1.8 to hit the interwebs in the next couple of weeks.
